'Alternative cosmotechnics for urban automation: the techno-geographical milieu of a neighborhood AI' forthcoming in Urban Automation: Into the Black Box 7

How can we think about the intensifying integration of machine learning within urban life? This article turns to critical technology studies and cybernetic thought to examine the technological becoming of the local, particularly through the concept of recursivity. Following this framework, I explore the possibility of rethinking AI through counter-hegemonic imaginaries, by looking at the speculative technical practice of artist duo Nuovo Abitare. The article draws from a 2024 workshop with Oriana Persico in which I was a discussant.

'Platform pragmatics and content production: speculation, self-reflexivity and affective contagion in attention economies' published in APRJA 13.1 (2024)

How can we critically understand collective behaviour within platform ecosystems? Moving past pessimistic notions of users as passive victims of surveillance and algorithmic manipulation, I propose platform pragmatics as a framework for understanding our collective performance within content economies as a mode of subaltern power. The article explores the politics and aesthetics of content production and circulation, looking at emerging cultural habits in the platform milieu.

'Platform Pragmatics' short essay published in the Content/Form newspaper (pdf) presented at Transmediale 2024

'Spatial Revolutions and the Seductive Power of Virtual Salvation' published in Meta.space: Spatial visions from the Middle Ages to the Digital Age (Distanz, 2022)

How can we critically understand the hype surrounding the project of the Metaverse? This article retraces the modern relationship between between technological imaginaries and spatial programming, from Haussmann’s Paris and the US suburban frontier up to contemporary fantasies of disembodied sociality and cyber fetishism.
